Cupping Therapy
Traditional method using cups to create suction on the skin to improve muscle tension.
Service Description
Cupping therapy is a traditional healing practice that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. It's used in various traditional medicine systems, including Traditional Chinese Medicine, and has gained popularity as a complementary therapy. How it works: Glass, bamboo, or silicone cups are placed on the skin, and suction is created either by heating the air inside the cup (fire cupping) or using a mechanical pump. The suction pulls the skin and underlying tissue slightly into the cup, increasing blood flow to the area. Types of cupping: Dry cupping: Just suction without any incisions Wet cupping: Small incisions are made before applying cups to draw out small amounts of blood Moving cupping: Cups are moved across the skin while maintaining suction Purported benefits: Pain relief for muscle tension and inflammation Improved blood circulation Relaxation and stress reduction Relief from respiratory conditions Reduction of cellulite What to expect: Sessions typically last 10-20 minutes. You'll feel a tight pulling sensation, but it shouldn't be painful. The treatment leaves temporary circular marks that can last several days to weeks - these are normal and fade over time. Safety considerations: When performed by trained practitioners, cupping is generally safe. However, it can cause bruising, skin irritation, and in rare cases, burns or infections. It's not recommended for people with certain skin conditions, bleeding disorders, or those taking blood thinners.
